McDonald's Restaurants, Hungary

The Assignment

  • Provide automated entrances for the largest McDonald’s restaurant in Budapest.

The Challenge

  • Despite high levels of pedestrian traffic, automatic doors are not commonly used in fast-food restaurants in Hungary.
  • The restaurant is connected to a busy railway station in a building designed by famed French engineer Gustave Eiffel. Because of its historical and architectural significance, any changes to its façade had to meet guidelines.
  • McDonald’s wanted to improve convenience and comfort for customers and reduce their energy and maintenance costs at the same time.

The Solution

As part of a pilot project, Besam Hungary installed a UniSlide telescopic door that made the most of the existing door-opening width.

Following a full year of testing, McDonald’s found that the Besam entrance solution met all of their expectations for performance, improving traffic flow and helping to control energy costs associated with heating the restaurant.

Besam is now the exclusive provider of automatic entrances for all new McDonald’s restaurants in Hungary, as well for renovations of older locations.

In addition to installing a variety of new sliding door equipment depending on the needs of a particular restaurant, Besam also provides preventative maintenance and service at all locations.
